About the event
Greetings and welcome to the LGBTQ+ Writer's of the Treasure Coast Club!
Like every writer, the experiences we have in life shape the art of our craft and the flow of words across each page of our work. As members of the LGBTQ+ community, there are many of us who remember the Stonewall Riots of 1969, the AIDS epidemic, the impact of 9/11, the Pulse Massacre, the realization of Marriage Inequality and frightening impact of the last presidential administration on our community. There are so many chapters to our shared history, and each of them shape our souls. We are living through times where our basic civil rights have been a matter of public debate not beyond debate. Just as these experiences speak to us, our legacy will speak to the future. We are gifted with capturing the memories of our times, and weaving stories that will mesmerize generations to come.
The beauty of this group is that we get to have a creative fellowship with our like-minded writers who share our sense of identity.
Our meetings will have a hybrid format. For our face to face meetings, we will be socially distancing in our cute masks each month at Cool Beans Brew, and we will also be using Zoom to include other writers unable to meet in person. Cool Bean Brew has a special private meeting room for us, away from the crowd of the shop, to feel that weight of privacy, and allow anyone to open up without feeling scared. Our goal is to create a safe space for you to share your work while sipping on a warm beverage!
ALL GENRES OF WRITING ARE WELCOME! We want to hear your poetry, non-fiction, urban fantasy, romance, science fiction, autobiography, mystery, erotica, horror, and any other genre that you may be writing under.
Please be aware of a few considerations when coming to our group meet ups:
1) Try to have some of your writing with you each time, in case you want to share.
2) Be willing to giving feedback to others who have shared material. (BE RESPECTFUL)
3) When bringing material, do your best to keep it under 500 words each meetup. This will help ensure that every writer has the time and opportunity to share their work and receive thoughtful feedback from others. If time allows, you are certainly more than welcome to share more!
Most of all, enjoy yourself. This is a 'no pressure' zone, and all we want is to create connections through our love for writing.
We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you as a writer, and friend!Â
